Foods that are poisonous for dogs


Some foods are dangerous for dogs and should be avoided. Don't feed them any of these.

We feed our dogs on a raw diet and supplement that with healthy fruits, vegetables, fish, etc - but not everything is safe for dogs to eat. If you think your dog has eaten something toxic, please call your vet immediately and get professional advice.

The following should be avoided:

  • Alcohol
  • Almonds
  • Almond flour (GF)
  • Avocado
  • Cooked bones
  • Brazil nuts (in large amounts)
  • Broccoli
  • Cacao
  • Cacao nibs
  • Caffeine (including tea, coffee etc...)
  • Cherries
  • Chives
  • Chocolate – the darker it gets the more toxic it is
  • Cocoa
  • Corn on the cob
  • Currants
  • Dates
  • Garlic
  • Green tomatoes
  • Grapes
  • Grapefruit
  • Lemons and limes
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Milk and milk products (unless lactose-free)
  • Moulds – mouldy bread, cheeses like stilton, etc
  • Mushrooms
  • Mustard seeds
  • Nutmeg
  • Onions
  • Peanut butter with added sweetener
  • Pecan nuts
  • Pistachio nuts
  • Rhubarb
  • Raisins
  • Saffron
  • Salt
  • Shallots
  • Sugar
  • Sultanas
  • Sweeteners (all artificial sweeteners)
  • Walnuts
  • Yeast dough
